The average
CD4+ lymphocyte count and viral load of the sample
was 364.5 cells/mm3
(SD = 258.1) and 56,529 copies/mL
(SD = 141,442.0), respectively. However, approximately
one-third (n = 29; 30.9%) of participants had an undetectable
viral load (,50 copies/mL) and approximately one-third
(n = 28; 29.8%) had AIDS (ie, a CD4+ lymphocyte count
of #200 cells/mm3
). Most (n = 89; 94.7%) had revealed their
HIV status to someone in their lives.
