The final storage memory independently learned the first set of 20 mushrooms. As in
Experiment 2, this was done to simulate “background knowledge” in final storage. Then the
20 new quasi-contradictory patterns were presented to the system for learning. A total of 40
pseudopatterns from the final-storage memory were added to the new set of mushrooms to
be learned. Once these were learned in the early-processing memory, instead of copying the
early-processing weights as before, the information was transferred to final storage by a set
of 40 pseudopatterns generated by the early-processing memory and learned by final storage.
