A lawyer on Tuesday called on the Royal Thai Police (RTP) to seek royal approval for stripping ex-Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra of his police lieutenant colonel rank.
Thanadech Phuangpoon submitted a petition to national police chief Pol Gen Somyot Poompunmuang demanding the process be endorsed by the palace.
The request came after Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha last week used Section 44 of the interim charter to revoke the ousted premier’s rank.
Citing Section 28 of the 2004 National Police Act, Mr Thanadech said the removal of Thaksin’s rank must be sent to His Majesty the King for endorsement as well.

Mr Thanadech denied being hired by Thaksin.
