This study was carried out
in accordance with the international standards of animal protection
and with the ethical principles of the Brazilian College of
Animal Experimentation, and was approved by the Ethics Committee
on Animal Use (CEUA) of the Pontificia Catholic University
of Rio Grande do Sul (PUCRS, Brazil, protocol 10/00159). The antiinflammatory
activity was tested through the experimental model
of carrageenan-induced pleurisy according to Saleh et al. (1996).
