2.2. Extrusion
The extrusion experiments were carried out at Buehler AG (Uzwil, Switzerland) using a twin screw extruder BCTL 42/20Dfor processing the native wheat bran. The extrusion parameters applied and based on pre-trials were: screw speed: 321 rpm;temperature profile: 101–145–155–99–150◦C; nozzle pressure: 65 bar; nozzle diameter: 2 × 4 mm; throughput: 50 kg h−1;SME: 236 Wh kg−1; water addition: 4.8 kg h−1. No further drying step was necessary, as the resulting pellets had a water content of 87 g kg−1which enabled storage stability.
