The genus Foveavirus is one of is one of the genera in the family Betaflexiviridae.
In genome organisation it particularly resembles the genus Carlavirus and members of the family Alphaflexiviridae and is distinguished from them by having 5 ORFs and a large replication protein.
There are no known vectors.
The name is from the Latin fovea (= a small pit) describing the symptoms of the type member.
