The experience of a Western education, whether at Harvard, Oxford, the Sorbonne, or the University of Sydney, not only diffuses Western forms of knowledge but also helps to create interpersonal networks of value in the functioning of international organizations like the United Nations, the World Bank, and the United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), as well as global corporations. In this sense, the development of a global culture is driven not only by mass-marketing strategies but also through the emergence and interests of a cross-national global elite.
