Type of analgesia changed as well: paracetamol became the most frequently used analgesic in the pre-burn center management, replacing morphine. This shift can be attributed to a significant increased use by general hospitals and GPs. Paracetamol was given rectally in the vast majority of children (100% period 1, 92.2% period 2), with a median dosage of 24 mg/kg in both periods. Only the minority of children, however, received an adequate dose of more than 40 mg/kg (period 1: 9.6%, period 2: 18.4%) (Table 5).
