wax figures are an art form that dates back to the ancient civilizations of Egypt and Greece. History documents that wax figures were sculpted for religious ceremonies. During the Roman Empire, noble families displayed wax statue of their ancestors. In Medieval Europe it was usual to preserve the likrness of a great personages by making death masks. With the development of a middle class during the Renaissance the practice of preserving images in wax became more widespread. In 18 century, Marie Grosholtz(later becoming Madame Tussaud) was assigned to take hunddreds of death masks during the French Revolution. Today, the Hollywood wax Museum and Madame Tussaud in London which display the greatest figure artists are the two most important exhibits in the world.
