Review BP's time-off and other policies
A key part of planning for the birth or adoption of a child is to understand how much time you can take away from work. Be sure to review BP's:
Family medical leave policy: Family medical leave grants unpaid, job-protected leave for:
The birth of an employee’s child and for care of the newborn child; and
Placement of a child with an employee for adoption or foster care.
The “Family Medical Leave Employee Checklist” provides a summary of what actions you need to take before, during and upon returning from your leave. The checklist will be included in the FMLA leave package sent to you upon your request for leave.
Short-term disability (STD) plan: BP's Short-Term Disability (STD) Plan provides you with benefit payments equal to a percentage of your base pay during the time that you are unable to fulfill the requirements of your job because of your own pregnancy-related or childbirth-related medical condition. STD benefits run concurrently with family leave benefits. Note: STD benefits are not available for an adoption.
Vacation policy: Check how much vacation time you may have available to you.
