3.2.7. Free fatty acids (FFAs)
FFAs were measured as an estimation of lipolysis. The initial FFA content ranged from 0.70 to 0.98% (data not shown), similar to values found by Tzikas et al. (2009) in Trachurus mediterraneus. FFAs content remained constant and no differences were found between samples. Other authors have previously described the lack of interaction between antioxidants and lipolysis (Farvin et al., 2012),indicating free fatty acids as not reliable oxidative status indicators.
