The majority of the trips (96%) occurred during the summer (May-Aug), but some
trips occurred during the winter (Dec-Jan). Each of the 11 re-sighted bottlenose
dolphins was sighted during the summer. Five of the 11 individuals (Tt15, Tt16, Tt18,
Tt19, and Tt21) were sighted during both summer and winter. There were seasonal
differences in sighting centers between summer and winter, with summer sightings
occurring in the southern-most portion of the study area, and winter sightings occurring
in the northern-most portion of the study area (Fig. 2.9A). The mean distance from the
coast during the summer months was 1.5 km, whereas during the winter the dolphins
were located on average 9.8 km offshore (Fig. 2.9B). The total distance between the 2
means was 13.7 km.
