SSF: Petri disheswith GP and SBP substrateswere used. 108 cells/
g dried mass were inoculated. Incubation was in anaerobic
environment at 28 1 C. The entire content of each Petri dish
was analyzed every 24 h. Assays were done in triplicate.
Liquid fermentations (LF) were carried out in 250 ml
Erlenmeyer flasks with 100 ml of SBJ, inoculated with
a biomass concentration equivalent to SSF (4 107 cells/ml).
AMu¨ ller valve (a glass device which contains 50% sulfuric acid
that allows only CO2 to escape from the system) closed the
flasks aseptically. Assays were done in triplicate.
