Phytomining is the recovery of metals using plants for commercial gain. It is a subset of a larger field of research known
as phytoextraction, i.e. the process of using plants to beneficially absorb mineral species from soils, sediments and aqueous
systems. Other applications of phytoextraction include phytoremediation,where non-naturally occurring contaminants are
recovered for disposal or reuse and phytostabilisation, where contaminant species are immobilised in situ via plant action
