Potato peel from the potato processing industry is a relatively
large waste stream in Ireland and is not currently used as a source
of high-value bioactive compounds. Compounds of phyto-pharmaceutical interest such as steroidal alkaloids are mainly located in
the peel, which further emphasises the possible value of this waste
stream[2]. Fig. 2presents the response surface plots showing the
effect of two different parameters of UAE (ultrasound amplitude,
and extraction time) on content of two glycoalkoids (a-solanine,
a-chaconine) and two aglycones (solanadine and demissidine)
in methanolic potato peel extracts.
