Athird sutra of Pure Land, known as the Infinite Life Sutra, was also composed in India and then translated into Chinese. This is considered to be the main Pure Land scripture.
In this sutra, Gautama Buddha tells another disciple about a past life of Amitabha Buddha, when he was a human king.
As a king, Amitabha renounced his throne to become a monk and bodhisattva dedicated to helping humanity attain liberation from the cycle of rebirth.
