The present study is an analytical approach aims at assessing noise pollution level in the District 14 of Tehran. The research has been done in three separate phases. In the first phase, equivalent sound pressure level was measured at District 14. In the second phase, the noise level in the district was indirectly estimated using factors have a determining role in noise propagation including land use types, passages, and population centers. At final stage, comparing the results of direct measurements and indirect estimations were compared to conclude whether indirect method is qualified enough to be used in areas where direct measurements are impossible, time-consuming or expensive. Here is provided research procedure in details.
Direct measurement of equivalent sound pressure level
The direct measurement was scheduled to be done in two phases. In the phase 1, a total number of 6 stations were randomly selected in a way to cover all types of residential, recreational, educational, commercial and residential-commercial land uses as well as noise susceptible areas such as hospitals, and different types of the passages including highways, major and minor streets and intersections. The sound level meter (model: B&K2230) was used to measure the equivalent sound
pressure level at all stations. At the same time, the geographic coordinate of the measurement points was recorded using GPS (model: VISTA Garmin HCX).
