The coefficient of variation (CV) is lower for dry density and saturated density parameters (0.55% and 0.66%, respectively) compared to porosity, percentage of water absorption in the saturated condition and SSD factors (Table 1).
The grain size distribution of sediments in the apex and toe of three
fans is shown in Table 2 and Fig. 9. The percent of silt and clay in all three
fans is higher at the fan toe than at the apex. Data show that particles of
old fan toe are finer-grained than those of relict and young fans so that
the highest percent of silt and clay (6%) is associated to the old fan toe
(Table 2). Overall, there is not a meaningful trend in particle size distribution of studied alluvial fans.
