Against this background the RADAR Logic – shown in the figure above – is a dynamic assessment framework which helps organisations to assess and score each criterion of the Excellence Model in order to gain structured information about the performance of an organisation. The four phases are (1) results, (2) approaches, (3) deploy and (4) assess and refine (EFQM 2009).
The EFQM Excellence Model has recently been revised, using input from EFQM members and assessors and taking account of changing commercial factors (EFQM 2009). As a part of this update the model has undergone an enhancement towards sustainability. Thus, there is a progress which has already been initiated in 2003 by the Sustainable Excellence Group (SEG 2006).
With the goal of embedding sustainability issues in the EFQM model, the Sustainable Excellence Group (SEG) has developed the Sustainable Excellence Approach. For this purpose, sustainability criteria and indicators were identified, weighted and integrated into the EFQM model. The Sustainable Excellence approach can be considered as a guiding framework for the development of a sustainability and excellence-oriented management system. Although the structure of the EFQM excellence model remains, different methods and tools (e.g. stakeholder analysis, strategy checks) have been developed to analyse the strengths, potentials and the degree of sustainability. Additionally different approaches regarding the integration of Sustainable Excellence and benchmarking have emerged (Kaldschmidt 2009).
