Previous studies have shown that routine thermal care is particularly inadequate for preterm
infants owing to their greater vulnerability to heat loss. Reducing heat loss in preterm infants
in the first few days after birth has been reported to increase survival rates.[7, 8] The International
Liaison Committee on Resuscitation (ILCOR) consensus statement recommends the use
of plastic wrap as a standard technique to maintain body temperature.[9] However, the use of
plastic wrap in the preterm infants requires further investigation.
