Like the postal service, the Internet relies on an addressing system to send data to its destination, Each location on the Internet has a four-part numeric address called an IP (Internet Protocol) address. The first part of the IP address identifies the geographic region (like United Kingdom or Malaysia), the second part is the company or organization (like Microsoft), the third part is the computer group and the last part is the specific computer (which is the computer you are working on). The text version of the IP address is called a domain name. The diagram below shows an IP address and a domain name.
