Anemia in pregnancy is a worldwide problem, but it is most preva-
lent in the developing world. This research project was conducted
to determine the predictors of anemia in pregnant women in West-
moreland, Jamaica. A cross-sectional study design was conducted,
and descriptive, bivariate, and multiple logistic regression analyses
were used. Body mass index (BMI), mid-upper arm circumference
(MUAC), and the number of antenatal care visits showed a statis-
tically significant association with anemia. Based on the results,
we believe that maintaining a healthy body weight, and frequently
visiting an ANC, will help to lower the prevalence of anemia among
pregnant women in Westmoreland.
