This paper outlines the role of simulation software in
design and operation of a typical metallurgical plant with
mineral processing and hydrometallurgical units, to
produce concentrate and pure metal. It addresses the role
of simulation and mass balance software in the
conceptual, feasibility and detailed design stages. It
discusses the use of JKSimMet for sizing of mineral
processing units, and METSIM and IDEAS for
development of energy and mass balances.
