3. Results
3.1. Patient demographic data
Of the 3172 isolates received, 2681 indicated the geographical
region of origin (Fig. S1); the regions that were the most and least
represented were SW (n = 774; 28.9%) and NW (n = 107; 4.0%)
(P < 0.001), respectively. Regarding species, 2392 (75.4% CI 73.9–
76.9%) and 780 (24.6% CI 23.1–26.1%) were collected from dogs and
cats, respectively. For dogs, 69.1% (CI 67.1–71.1) were female and
31.0% (CI 29.0–33.1) male (P < 0.01). For cats, 74.9% were females
and 26.5% were males (P < 0.01; 1.1% was listed as unknown). The
median ages of dogs and cats were 7.6–10 and 12.6–15 years
