The contestants picked their own songs (this was part of what the judges were evaluating), so I think Sawyer did great. He put his guitar away, picked a relatively current (10 years old) song by a new singer/songwriter (instead of a classic older one), and with nudging from his judge, moved around on stage a bit. Though he doesn't have the range of Mia or some of the others, he's consistently listenable and has made smart choices in each performance to pick one or two stanzas/phrases to really show some powerful emotion.
