Tables III presents the correlation coefficients of pain intensity,
disability, HRQOL, general distress, avoidance- and endurance-
related pain responses at baseline and 6 months later.
No significant correlation was found between pain intensity
and age or gender, at baseline only significant correlations
were found between age and disability (r = 0.25) and HRQOL (r = −0.29). At the first assessment point, no significant intercorrelations
were found between the three outcomes pain
intensity, disability and HRQOL. Furthermore, only weak
correlations were found between the outcomes and avoidance-
and endurance-related responses of pain. At baseline,
strong and significant correlations were found only between
HRQOL and general distress.
In contrast, at the 6-months follow-up, the outcomes pain
intensity, disability and HRQOL revealed significant intercorrelations
at high levels. Additionally, strong correlations were
found between the outcomes, general distress and cognitive
and behavioural pain reactions (see Table III).
