The paper describes and explains the efforts of Malaysian society in transforming itself through technological advantage to attempt become an information-rich Knowledge Society founded on positive universal values. Development in the education sector is analysed in term of the overall development initiative which provide the direction, political will and resources for changes in the education sector. The four over-arching initiatives are the Multimedia Super Corridor Project (MSC), the Nation Information Technology Agenda, the K-Economy Master Plan, and the Skilled Human Resource Development Plan. Two integrative ideas which provide the coherent purpose for strategic education change are the ideas of Life-Long education sector the creation of a Knowledge Society, within the education sector the Smart School and Virtual University project are described as illustration of the realities of changes taking place throughout the country. Major issues of concerns related to the utilization of ICT in the wider culture and in education are discussed within the context of value creation and planned collective imagination of a society determined to become a developed nation.
