It should be borne in mind that the analysis of international trade in this paper is based on recorded or formal trade data. For some of agricultural products, for examples, cattle, buffaloes, and other live animals, informal trade with neighboring countries is said to have gone unrecorded for some time. Also, informal trade with China includes some non-timber forest products, such as medical herbs, fibers, resin, forest foods, etc. (World Bank, 2006). This portion of trade might exert some impacts on the structure of Laos‟ international trade and comparative advantages. However, since it is not captured and/or recorded in the database, a quantitative analysis of such informal/border trade is beyond the scope of this analysis.
