In conclusion, we evaluated here the safety and efficacy of a
DNA vaccine encoding TSA-1 and Tc24 for the prevention of Chagas
disease progression in dogs, when administered as a preventive and
therapeutic vaccine. We show here that it is safe and can partially
reduce clinical disease progression in vaccinated dogs, in spite of
a highly virulent challenge. As such, this DNA vaccine may thus be
an excellent a veterinary vaccine candidate that could control both
parasite transmission and disease progression in domestic dogs and
possibly other pets. Our results thus strengthen the rationale for
and the feasibility of the development of a Chagas disease vaccine.
