Effectively fermentative bio-hydrogen was produced from
cellulose using cow dung compost enriched cultures. Enrichment
of cow dung compost with cellulose was a method
effectively to prevent methanogens and degrade cellulose.
The cow dung compost enriched cultures had the best cellulose
hydrolysis efficiency of about 60% and the potential
hydrogen production of 1525 ml/l at 10 g/l cellulose under
37 C, initial pH 6.8. The rate of hydrogen production and the
yield of hydrogen was 33 ml/l.h, and 272 ml/g-cellulose or
2.09 mol/mol-hexose, respectively
