In comparing the scenarios that included biogas purification and upgrading to biomethane (Base LS-A(U), Base LS-B(U), Base LSC(U)), it was noted that only the scenario with coupled smallscale
CHP unit covering internal heat demands (Base LS-B(U)) was capable of reducing the overall impact on resources availability (RA) by more than double compared to electricity generation alone (Base LS). Thiswas explained by the higher potential for fossil fuel substitution with biomethane, due to higher system efficiency (approximately 100%). However, overall environmental performance (1.7 pt) decreased by 60% and 80% compared to electricity generation in CHP (Base LS) and fuel cell with external heat utilization(Base LS-D(U)), respectively.
