We not four broad areas of change since the first edition of this book First and perhaps most striking is the continuing and increasing impact of cognitive behavior therapy (CBT) Both of us are CBT therapists and so it is perhaps inevitable we should say this but the sheer breadth of the evidence and its influence in practice are persuasive Thus CBT is present to some degree in almost all NICE guidelines and NSFs For us the most encouraging aspect of this is that CBT is no longer seen purely as a specialism for the treatment of particular disorders but as an approach which as something to say in diverse aspects of care This ubiquity is reflected in the content of many chapters of this book
