Strengths
While systematic review and randomized clinical trials existed in supporting the effectiveness of PMT for parents of
children with developmental disabilities, this study represented the second study, after the Tellegen and Sanders’ (2013)
study, to collate a meta-analysis in evaluating the effectiveness of PMT on the direct effect of reduction of children’s
disruptive behaviors. A meta-analysis allows for the synthesis of multiple but smaller studies, thereby increasing statistical
power. In addition, this study also investigated the potential moderating variables that may explain the differences in the
main effects. Furthermore, this meta-analysis also investigated three different PMT programs to determine if PMTs in
general have an effect on child behavior, rather than a specific program.
