ROME REUTERS-A SEVEN-YEAR-OLD boy was installed as the 23rd reincarnation of an 11th century Luma at a ceremony in Italy recently.
The Italian news media have seen it as a real-life version of the film “Little Buddha”
The boy’s name is Tenzing Khonyang, and he is a Canadian of Tibetan origin He went through the 90-minite ceremony at a Tibetan Buddhist religious centerin a village near the historic Italian city of Pisa.
TV news showed the boy playing with a photographer’s camera as he sat on the trone.
Tenzing was recognized by the Dalai Luma as the 23rd reincarnation of Gomo Rinpoche, a Luma who lived nearly 1000 year ago.
The Italian media have commented on the similarity of the story to Bernardo Bertolucci’s movie “Little Buddha,” which tells of an American boy recognized as a reincarnation.
Tenzing will stay in Italy until next February with his mother. He will then go to a monastery in India alone for a long period of spiritual study.
