The dBoard applies a ‘window’ metaphor to its video conferencin features. The whole background of the dBoard user interface is a large video stream from a connected dBoard designed to give the same feeling that can be experienced when looking through a window into another office. All other user interface elements such as the Scrum board and the menus are placed on top of this video. Similar to a media space [1], the dBoard video is always on and is started automatically when the system is started. The dBoard also captures and streams audio from a connected microphone. This always-on feature makes initiating a meeting as simple as walking up to a board. To get the attention of people at the location of another dBoard, we implemented a ‘knock knock’ feature. When a user performs a knocking gesture on the board, a knocking sound is played at the other board signaling that someone requests attention.
