What is an MSDS or SDS?
Material safety data sheets (MSDS) or safety data sheets (SDS) are the main tool for ensuring that suppliers communicate enough information along the supply chain to allow safe use of their substances and mixtures. As of 1 June 2015, manufacturers are required to change from MSDS format to SDS format. MSDS include classification from the Dangerous Preparations Directive (DPD). SDS include classification from the Classification, Labeling, and Packaging (CLP) regulation. An MSDS or SDS can be requested from the manufacturer of the hazardous product. For products which bear the new CLP classification, an SDS should be requested for consistency.
MSDS or SDS documents include information about the properties of the substance or mixture, its hazards and instructions for handling, disposal, and transport, as well as first-aid, fire-fighting, and exposure control measures. Amazon requires this document from you in order to correctly classify products identified as Hazmat. More information on MSDS can be found on the Office of Safety and Health Administration website.
