Vitamin D analogues
The vitamin D analogues calcipotriol, calcitrol and
tacalcitol are also useful in the first-line treatment
of chronic stable plaque psoriasis of the trunk andlimbs, once or twice a day, but they are irritant and not
suitable for use in inflammatory forms of psoriasis.
After 4–6 weeks the response should be assessed and if
seen to be effective, it may be continued. If no response
is seen, treatment should be discontinued. When
treating the trunk or limbs with a topical corticosteroid,
an additional daily application of vitamin D or a
vitamin D analogue is recommended (Joint Formulary
Committee, 2013: 13.5.2).
