6. Let the substrate dry completely for a couple of days, and then apply an inkjet precoat accord- ing to the steps in the sidebar on the next page. For this example, I’ve used rabbit skin glue and, while still warm, spread it onto the surface with a paint pad (Figure 20.6).
7. Prepare your digital image by setting it to be one half to one inch larger than your substrate. Save it, and then make a separate copy. You will use this copy to make a template carrier sheet. In that copy, cut out the center of the image (to save ink) so that a one inch border of the image remains.
8. Set the platen gap appropriately, and then load a sheet of spunbonded polyester into your printer. If you’re using a desktop printer, set it to print offset from the bottom by three inches. If you’re using a wide format printer, set it to print offset from both the bottom and sides by three inches.
9. Print the prepared digital image from Step 7 (the one that is only the border) onto the poly- ester sheet. This is your template carrier sheet. (Figure 20.7).
