Taste disturbances
Taste is a critical component of
oral health that is affected adversely in
patients with diabetes [16]. One study
reported that more than one-third of
adults with diabetes had hypogeusia
or diminished taste perception, which
could result in hyperphagia and obesity
[17]. This sensory dysfunction can
inhibit the ability to maintain a proper
diet and can lead to poor glycemic
regulation.
Other oral manifestations include
oral lichen planus, trigeminal neuralgia,
traumatic ulcers and irritation
fibromas.
