Option 1: The children will remain in the care of their current caregiver
This assessment has been initiated since 2013 with regular monitoring and close coordination from COERR but it was difficult to seek proper care arrangement for the children in the camp. The children were staying in the camp with the father but without proper care and attention towards the children. The father also developed his drinking habit as mentioned in the report which threatened the children’s physical and emotional safety. The mother however never came back to the camp and also hardy contacted the children after she left to work. During the assessment period, FOK tried to locate the proper caregivers in the camp but it was not successful. Without proper care in the camp, although they did not face great danger, the children lived with poor food and hygiene and most of them lost their interest to study and did not do well at school. The eldest 2 children suffered the most because they had to take up the parent’s responsibility for the younger siblings as mentioned. After they came to stay at the current place under the care of this caregiver couple, the children appeared much brighter, healthier and happier. All of them are able to enjoy their time such as eating, playing and studying as other children without worrying and concerning much like before. The caregivers also treat them nicely and equally as other children with care and empathy. The children are also appeared happy that they got to see their mother time to time since they are staying not very far from each other now.
