This is the most familiar system. Manual shifting is performed by moving a control on the console. Moving the selector to the right provides for an upshift. A movement to the left allows for a downshift. The transaxle is not modified for this option; rather, it is fitted with a special gear selector and switch assembly. The driver can either manually shift the gears or allow the transaxle to shift automatically. The selected gear is displayed on the instrument panel to keep the driver informed of the selected gear.
