Responsibility for fostering student success and wellbeing goes far beyond
the institutional programs that have been instituted. Every student at
Penn has a network of support, official and unofficial, that spans friends,
family, peers, peer educators, academic advisors, faculty, and staff in student
services and other roles. Students (undergraduate, graduate, and professional)
are expected to take responsibility for their own wellbeing, but
we recognize that during times of stress or distress, it is challenging to
maintain one’s perspective and to make sound decisions about whether
and to whom to turn for help. For these reasons, Penn has a strong and
committed network of individuals and offices that can either provide direct
assistance or ensure that students are appropriately referred. The University
is fortunate that so many members of the Penn community are already
actively engaged in supporting students and want to do more.
