General discussion
Although Lexia recommend that the software is used regularly,
a minimum of three 20-minute sessions per week, the
results of the regression analysis indicates that time spent
on Lexia did not significantly contribute to the amount of
variance explained in final reading scores, whereas the
Lexia level achieved did. The Lexia level indicates how far
through the Lexia program the child had got by the end of
the study. Some of the children who had not progressed
through the program as far as other children, even though
they had high usage patterns, had poorer performance in the
final reading test. This is also consistent with the children’s
own views of the software as children who ‘got stuck’ at
certain levels were the children who expressed the view that
they were unsure whether Lexia had helped them and were
not as keen as the more successful children to proceed with
using the software.
