All packaging formats, especially transport cartons, have to provide enough
stability for all usual purposes like transport, storage and handling in warehouses
and retail/wholesale stores. The package must withstand shocking and vibration
during the whole transport distance by truck and/or ship, climatic distinctions,
order-picking and cross-docking processes. Key figures calculated on CCG 2
loading height (1950mm incl. pallet) are BCT (Box Crush Test), BST (Burst
Strength), ECT (Edge Crush Test), PET (Puncturing Resistance). Column stacking
with stretch film is preferred. If connected stacking is used displacement of every
2nd layer and 2 towers (stacking pattern for ½ Chep/Euro per tower). If block
storage is required the key figures must be calculated higher.
Fillers for stabilisation and protection of the good should be made of paper
board or corrugated board or paper pulp forms.
The stack compression should be absorbed by the package and NOT by the
product itself if the product is fragile or in a non-structural primary packaging.
