Figure 5 shows a measured traction curve for μ at low radius. At = 0, also μ = 0, hence Tbelt = 0. The coupling between the primary and secondary pulley is realized by applying this torque Tbelt at the secondary shaft and a reaction torque Tbeltrg at the primary shaft (see Figure 4). In this way, a realistic variator behavior is obtained, where no torque can be transmitted when no slip is present. The traction coefficient is implemented as a look-up table, obtained from measurements.
