From the above study, it was concluded that shoot tip
explants are suitable for clonal propagation of Bambara
groundnut. The maximum mean number of regenerated
shoots per explant exhibited by the landraces Ci3, Ci4 and
Ci5 after 1 month of culture was about 13, which once projected
onto a yearly basis, represented a potential multiplication
of an average of 156 plants (13 × 12) per initially
cultured shoot tip. Shoot-tip multiplication would be an
excellent method of germplasm preservation of Bambara
groundnut varieties. It would also form the foundation for
future work on biotechnology.
