Junta continues Thaksin purge
The coup makers have frozen the assets of Charupong Ruangsuwan and Chaturon Chaisang, the two Pheu Thai Party executives who refused to report to them.
Mr Charupong was formerly the interior minister and Mr Chaturon the education minister in the Yingluck Shinawatra government
In one of the orders announced around 9pm on Saturday, the National Council for Peace and Order (NCPO) told all financial institutions to stop transactions with the two and report their past transactions with the two and report their past transactions from March 1 to May 24.
In another order, the NCPO moved Pol Col Thawee Sodsong, director of the Southern Border Provinces Administration Centre (SBPAC), to work at the Prime Minister’s Office.
Phanu Uthairat, inspector-general of the Ministry of Interior, was appointed to take his place as acting SBPAC director.
The transfer happened just after a series of bombings in the southern border provinces of Pattani and Narathiwat and a shooting at a military base in Pattani Saturday night.
Besides, the generals summoned Paiwong Techanarong, owner of the Bonanza Khao Yai Resort, to turn himself in at the Royal Thai Army auditorium in Thewes area of Bangkok at 11am to 11.30am on Sunday.
In a separate order, Pravit Rojanaphruk, a senior journalist at The Nation newspaper, was also told to report to the NCPO on Sunday.
There were also reports that Metropolitan Police Bureau chief Kamronwit Thoopkrachang, an officer with close ties to Thaksin, would resign. He later denied the rumours.
The NCPO has transfered some security authorities and summoned over 100 people believed to have influences on political situations in Thailand after announcing the coup d'etat in Thailand on May 22 following months long of the Thai political stalemate and related violent incidents.
