Insect chewing damage appeared to differ in Anoplolepis-infested and Anoplolepisfree
areas, although the effect varied between tree species (Table 1). Significant
differences were recorded for Pisonia grandis, where leaves in Anoplolepis-free
areas were more likely to show signs of insect attack, and for Scaevola sericea,
where more damage was observed in Anoplolepis-infested areas. For Carica papaya
and Phyllanthus pervilleanus there was no significant difference (of the 51 C.
papaya leaves collected, none were damaged).
