Faced with this situation, employees are likely to try to resolve the inequity. They can do this in several ways. One way is by asking for a raise or a bonus. If that doesn’t work, they can adjust their inputs to make their inputs to outcome ration more equitable. In other words, they can stop working as hard as they once did, perhaps by putting in fewer hours, taking longer breaks, and so forth. Employees can also adjust their psychological perspective by rationalizing why there is inequity. They may try to explain the situation by seeking some other reasons for the difference, such as education, experience, or even political connections within the organization. If the reason they identify seems logical to them, they may reduce their feelings of inequity. A final option for employees is to quit their jobs if they feel that inequity is too great and cannot be altered.
