The scientific community on foods (SCF) provided a comprehensive review of the toxicity of PAHs in foods in an outlook on December 2002. They placed BAP as a PAH marker for food (as shown in Table 2A). However, at the same time, they suggested the need for additional PAHs in lieu of manifestation of the PAH contamination profile. The need for grouping of other PAHs was also addressed by the EU (European Commission Recommendation No 2005/108/EC).
